You think you'll never be one when
you are younger, but hopefully you will live to see
the day. You have no wage now, just a State Pension
and if you are lucky, a small company pension like me.
Enough to keep the wolf from the door but not enough
to live the life of luxury.
How do I fill in all that extra
time on a low income? I have no transport so what has
Padiham to offer!
If you live alone, as I do, you get a 25% rebate on
your Community Tax. This will enable you to go to courses,
run by Burnley College, for FREE. There are plenty to
choose from and at the moment I am going to Calligraphy
at the Methodist Church. The College Shop will give
you all the details.
I love painting, not that I'm that
good at it, and I find it very relaxing. For years now
I have been going to Iris Owen's Padiham Painting at
Leisure classes, now held at her studios on Station
Road. It's half price for pensioners and anyone on any
State benefit, and it's very friendly and helpful. And,
we have lots of exhibitions, so there's always the chance
that you may sell some of your paintings.
For fitness, try TAI CHI at Nazareth
Unitarian Chapel on a Monday night. Really good fun
we have there. And, try aqua mobility at the Padiham
Leisure centre on Wednesday afternoons. That's great
also, nothing too strenuous but beneficial and fun.
Oxfam gets me for one afternoon,
and there are lots of Charity Shops crying out for volunteers.
You'll get your fare paid too. Which is again ½
price on the buses for us oldies. Do some shopping at
the same time.
So what are you waiting for! Get
going in Padiham it's a great place to be.
